Disability Resources and Housing & Residence Life will consider requests for housing accommodations from students whose disability may impact them in the residential setting.
Housing Accommodations available at UMD may include:
- Single Room
- Roll-In Shower
- Grab Bars in Bath
- Strobe Light/Door Knocker
- Low Closet Shelves
- Emotional Support Animal
Housing accommodations are dependent on space availability. Be sure to make your requests as early as possible. Housing Accommodations can take up to 30 days after a request is made and documentation is submitted.
Housing Accommodation Request Process
Step 1: Student contacts Disability Resources inquiring about housing accommodations.
Step 2: Student obtains documentation form from DR and has it completed from treating healthcare provider in support of the request. It is also an option for student to complete a personal statement about their request as well.
Must meet with DR staff in order to get the Housing Accommodation Request Form that you & your provider will complete.
Completed documentation is then submitted via email, fax or mail to UMD Disability Resources as follows:

Step 3: Review of housing accommodation request by Disability Resources Staff, Housing & Residence Life Staff, & Health Services Staff
Step 4: Notification of Determination by Disability Resources.
Student can expect electronic notification through UMD email of determination within 30 days of submitting application and provider documentation is received.
Request approved
- You will be contacted by Disability Resources staff for next steps
Request denied
- Student can re-apply if information was incomplete
- Student can appeal the decision
